Perception

THE OWL is an upside down animation, which approach how we perceive things around us. Regarding the perceptual systems of our brain, what we perceive, depends on what we want to perceive, even though the sensory information is typically incomplete and rapidly varying. Perception is not only a passive visual receipt of signal, but it's also shaped by the recipient's memory, expectation and attention.

In the beginning of the animation, we may receive that the target is under an umbrella in a rainy day; but by the end of the animation, we realize that it’s just an illusion of what we want to see regarding our experiences and previous learnings. Just by using two of human’s mainly perceive elements (visual and sound); a diversion can be done, till the cues become more open and selective. We also actively ignore and even distort cues that violate our initial perceptions. ( “I already knew that was a lamp..”) Our perception becomes more selective and we finally paint a consistent picture of the target.

According to psychologist Jerome Bruner’s model of perception; people go through the following process to form opinions.
